1. Shri Aurobindo Ashram: It is a spiritual place built in honour of Shri Aurobindo who was a great revolutionist and spiritual leader of India. This ashram is used for practicing internal yoga and has been instrumental in creating the spiritual feel in the city.

2. Auroville: It is yet another place made in honour of Shri Aurobindo Ghosh. Men and women of all places live here harmoniously. It was started in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa who had accepted Aurobindo Ghosh as her mentor.

3. Arikamendu: It is basically an archaeological site situated on the estuary of river Ariyankuppam. It used to be a Tamil fishing village which was earlier a major port excelling in bead making and trading. It has an Archaeological Museum which exhibits a fine sculpture gallery and archaeological findings dating back to the Roman settlement at Arikamedu.

4. Pondicherry Beach: It is 1.5 kms long and has beautiful lush trees and has several landmarks such as statues of Mahatma Gandhi and the popular French Governor Dupleix which is a 27 metres tall lighthouse.

A. Aurobindo Ashram Pondicherry –  is probably the most popular part of Pondicherry. It was built in the memory of Shri Aurobindo who was a great revolutionist and spiritual leader. This place is visited by spiritual seekers from all over the world to find something deeper in life. One of its aims is to teach eternal yoga.

B. Ocean Spray Pondicherry – is an exquisite hotel which has fantastic views and great service. Many people travel from Bangalore to Pondicherry which is manageable distance away. Puducherry Tourism benefits a lot from that.

C. Pondicherry University – is a public university. Its jurisdiction is spread over the Union Territories of Pondicherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It has introduced innovations like the Choice-based Credit System and on-line admission for postgraduate studies. This university faces the Bay of Bengal and is situated on the East Coast road. The valedictory of the silver jubilee celebrations of Pondicherry University was held October 18, 2010. Dr. C. Rangarajan, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, delivered the keynote address. It has schools/departments like Subramania Bharathi School of Tamil Language and Literature, School of Management, Ramanujan School of Mathematical Sciences, School of Engineering and School of Physical, Chemical and Applied Sciences, School of Life Sciences, School of Humanities etc.

D. Auroville Pondicherry or City of Dawn – is an experimental township in Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu. “Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.”
Many people travel from Chennai to Pondicherry due to its closeness.
